Tom Eddington is executive producing a film about the life of Florence Nightingale “Legacy of Light”. This is a feature-length dramatic film based on her extraordinary life. She was an iconic English social reformer and statistician best remembered as the founder of modern nursing. She came to prominence while serving as a manager or trainer of nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organized to care for wounded soldiers. Complementing the release of the film, there will be an integrated media campaign as well as a TV series based on Nightingale’s life.
The goals of the film are 1) to celebrate her legacy while engendering a deeper understanding of her as not only a nurse but also a prominent statistician and mystic; 2) to elevate the importance of nurses in world society; and 3) to use Nightingale’s story as a means to advance the role of woman in society. Another important aspect of her story is her 19th Century work towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); the film will be used as a catalyst to create awareness of the UN’s current sustainability goals, targeted to reach fruition by 2030.
